When you next visit Plettenberg Bay otherwise known as Plett, one of our recommendations for your accommodation is the Old Rectory, a beautiful and historical 4* hotel based in central Plett near Hobie Beach.

We highly recommend it for those visiting this little garden route town and would say it is slightly more suitable to couples but they do cater for families too and given its prime location it does make for the perfect family holiday spot! The service is warm and friendly, food is amazing and the rooms spacious and comfortable so all in all a wonderful place to enjoy your stay in Plett.

The hotel consists of 18 suites of which some are garden-facing and others are pool-facing but all the same prices.  We stayed in the garden-facing room which was light and breezy, spacious and decorated with a colourful beach feel vibe to it. Some of the rooms have a shower and others a bath so be sure to stipulate your preference. The main hotel area has some lovely pictures detailing the long history of the building and they have tried to retain as many of the original walls as possible giving the hotel a great sense of tradition and history.

The restaurant which is called 1777 has a lovely atmosphere and the chairs are adorned with the Dutch East India company logo. Again, you have some original walls which were maintained and kept plus original yellowwood floors making for a truly warm and memorable experience. The food is delicious, especially the A-typical bunny chow and the service was friendly and informative. The breakfast buffet consists of a buffet plus a menu from which can be ordered a variety of different breakfasts. There is also a cozy bar where you can sit and enjoy a drink and meet fellow guests or simply watch your favourite sporting event.

There is a spa with an array of wellness treatments and a pool for those days when you have had enough of the beach(50 meters away). The hotel is also surrounded by some lovely vegetation both inside and out, another historical building across the road and a beachside bar down the road for some yummy cocktails and prime time viewing as Dolphins and whales swim by.
