Out & About suggestions in Cape Town this weekend!

After having just recently celebrated our 20th anniversary in Cape Town, I thought it might be useful to highlight some of the places we visited as they would make for a great weekend getaway!

First off, we started our celebration at a restaurant called Scala Pasta.Bar which was absolutely amazing! It’s situated in Church street in Cape Town and on arriving you are met with a modern design set up with some up tempo beats to get you in the mood after a long week!. The service is attentive and informative by well trained waiters and the food is probably some of the best Italian made pasta dishes I’ve had in a good while. You order various “tapa’s type dishes which are small but beautifully made with incredible taste sensations all of which was watered down with some Italian Aperitifs! 5 stars all round!

Next up on the Saturday was a stop at Beau Constantia wine farm which has the most incredible views across Constantia and beyond! Again the service was attentive and the wine delicious especially the Beau Constantia Aidan (same name as my eldest son) and which the waitress thought might be a potential match up for her given the same ages ;).

We then headed a mere 500 meters (as the crow flies) to La Colombe restaurant which is fine dining at it’s best!

A quick word of warning though, do not think it is an easy walk from Beau to La Colombe as you need to walk up the road and then up a very long and steep drive way of Silvermist hotel to get to the restaurant much to the dismay of my colleagues walking in high heals! It’s a work out but at least you arrive hungry!! The food, service and atmosphere were once again absolutely superb with the most incredible food designs and taste sensations imaginable! It comes at a cost but well worth it for that special occasion and it just reminded me that for those travelling from abroad such as the US, UK or Europe, you are truly staying in a world class city and dining out at the best for a fraction of the price of what you would find in your home countries!

14th Story                                                                    Tjing Tjing                                                  Cheers to 20 years!!

It was now time to crank things up a notch and have a bit of a party so off we set to explore some bars in the heart of Cape Town. First up was 14Stories Rooftop Bar with fantastic Cape Town city views all round! Then it was off to The Gin Bar which is hidden away behind this chocolate shop but has the best gin cocktails with a great atmosphere. Tjing Tjing was next where we ate some delicious Asian food, drank some awesome cocktails whilst sitting in this sunken wooden table in the floor! Again, absolutely awesome place with great music to keep things flowing! Things were hotting up by now so we made a dash to The House of Machines which was heaving with people, good music and great atmosphere! Their website is also pretty cool 😉

It was at this stage that one of Tammy’s friends gave her a call to meet up at a secretive bar called The Art of Duplicity. Reservations can only be made online with a website that starts to set the tone for that prohibition, speak easy style venue. On arrival (invite only), you are ushered down a walk way, through the back of the coffee shop and to a door. A shutter snaps open only to be eyed out by a door man and after a pass word is given are you allowed entry into a room taking you back to the roaring 20’s! It’s relatively small but feels like you are in a warehouse of sorts with tables dotted around, barmen pouring some incredible cocktails in the most incredible fashion. The original version of the Adams family(like 50’s version) was playing on a screen and there was a stage which you could do the Charleston, fox trot or shimmy! What a special place to have found, unique, quirky, and lots of fun!

Well, that about sums up our trip and I hope you can use it to planning your next weekend getaway with us to this special city!

Take care

Giles
